Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Tier 1 school. Tier 1 schools are usually schools where most of the students are below the poverty level. Also, students struggle across all academic levels. Most of my students are students with disabilities and English language learners. Many of my students come from backgrounds where their parents are only Spanish speakers and have attained only an elementary level education. Being exposed to these conditions, many of my students are below grade level when they enter my classroom.
My Project
My students need the word games like the cvc game to improve their emergent literacy skills. The sight word games will help them increase their ability to recognize these words automatically. My students will build their emergent literacy and math skills. They can use these materials to work in small groups and increase cooperative skills. Also, they can build self confidence which lacks in the community that I work in amongst the kids. They will increase their comprehension skills through the use of the listening center with the cd player and use of the headphones while listening to stories on cd. These materials will benefit both my English Language Learners and Students With Disabilities. The literacy games like the sight word game and the CVC game will help them learn basic foundational skills to help them reach their reading level goals. They will learn how to decode and build fluency when reading. They will all benefit. They will be amazing!
