My students need 5 headphones, 5 (Fire HD) tablets and tablet covers in order to finally have personalized listening and speaking centers using the protected tablets.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My French and AP Spanish students are excited to truly master the four key skills needed in any language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Due to limited resources, my students always come up short in developing listening and speaking skills as reflected on their final and AP exams.
My students are eager, beautiul, and courageous young ladies and gentlemen.
They live in a low-income community with high-crime rates and low-performing schools, one of which they are a part of. However, despite any and all obstacles, they are determined to persevere and pursue excellence. They seek opportunities to grow and learn. They are thirsty for knowledge and do not settle for less.
My Project
Because of limited resources, my students are unable to truly practice their listening and speaking skills. We do not have enough books for a full class of 35+, and individualized attention in the classroom is very restricted. The 5 tablets would allow me as a teacher to create a listening station in my classroom. My students would be able to participate in station rotations, where some students would work on their reading and writing skills, others would work on their speaking skills, and 5-10 students would be able to use these tablets (alone or in partners) in order to hone their listening skills, giving them the access to understand different types of accents, intonations, and pronunciation rules. The tablets may also be used for honing their reading skills as well in the target language.
In order to be fully equipped to be global citizens in this competitive nation, my students will need to truly learn a foreign language not just through reading and writing, but also and very importantly through listening and speaking.
In order to communicate in college and beyond, my students will need to practice their listening skills in order to grow in all other areas as well. With these tablets, my students will gain technology skills and access to a more compete foreign language education.
