My students need a variety of genres of books at different reading levels. Humorous series such as Fly Guy and biographies of people of color are of high interest in my classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's a new school year and my fourth grade students are in need of books!
Reading is key to learning.
I am building lifelong readers in my classroom and am in need of a variety of books.
Living just outside of downtown Los Angeles, my students, many who take public transportation or walk, do not have access to stores with books and print materials. Our school library is small and only open every other week. The local libraries often have waitlists for books that are high in demand, or are missing copies that must be ordered from across town. The local bookstores are small and cater mostly to adults.
My Project
It is important to me that the students build their identities as readers and that means exposing them to a wide range of books - literature and informational text - hoping to find one that will hit the mark and create a reader for a lifetime.
Finding a wide selection of books that are high-interest and at various readers' levels is difficult at best.
I chose biographies about celebrated historical figures like Frida Kahlo and Jackie Robinson, humorous series like Alvin Ho and Fly Guy, and some classics such as The Chronicles of Narnia in order to build depth in our classroom library.
