Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the great pleasure of teaching a wonderful class of 35 fourth graders in La Puente, California. They are a wonderful enthusiastic bunch of learners from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our school serves a Title 1 student community of 90% free or reduced lunch recipients and we have an urgent need of reading resources to enrich their educational needs. My students will appreciated with a full heart to start the new school year with a collection of their favorite storybooks to enjoy and enrich their literacy experiences.
My Project
Books take kids on wonderful, mysterious, and unforgettable adventures. I would love for our classroom library to grow to help my students become life long readers.
I will be teaching 4th grade and need chapter books to add to my collection.
Through literature we learn about kindness, friendship, love, or loss it is endless the lessons we can learn from a good book. Children can identify themselves with fictional or nonfictional characters and see how this characters have dealt with situations similar to the ones they are going through. They can travel to worlds or meet characters that they couldn't even imagine existed. If children LOVE to read at a young age they will never stop!
