Did your parents tell you the story of Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood and others? My mother shared these stories with me and I shared these stories with my children. Now, I am sharing these traditional stories of childhood with my students.
I teach in a special program called EELP (Early Exceptional Learning Program) in the Hillsborough County School System.
My students are ages 3-5. They have developmental delays and speech and language delays. My children need to be able to communicate effectively in order to succeed in a "typical" kindergarten classroom. My job is to help them meet their goals.
My Project
My students LOVE puppets. My hope is that by using these 3 sets of puppets to retell these beloved stories, the language skills of my students will improve. Some might only be able to share one word with me: "bear" when we read the story of Goldilocks or they might say "oink" when they see the 3 little pigs. Others will be able to repeat the familiar phrases in the stories: "not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin". Others will use sentences to sequence the events and retell the story for others. Each type of response is success!!
Studies have shown that early intervention with special needs children is vitally important.
Do you want to make a difference in a child's life? Support my project and you have the opportunity to touch the life of a child. Thank you in advance for your support.
