Building Language and Literacy in the Littles! Special Education
My students need a Fold A Cart bag, See Inside Magnetic blocks, Slot & Texture shapes, and Magnetic Letter Builders to build the classroom full of language and literacy.
My day is never a typical day. I teach students with autism and autism spectrum disorders. The biggest challenge in my classroom is keeping my students engaged in learning.
Our school has over sixteen different languages spoken and seventy-four percent of the students are at risk of educational failure.
I work with students who have special needs and their abilities vary from non-verbal to socially isolated. Students in my program do not learn through traditional teaching methods. Their materials need to be engaging and offer my students spatial awareness to stay on task. My students vary from verbal to non-verbal with varying abilities.
My students are eager to learn; I just need materials to help them. My students face a variety of learning and behavioral challenges every day. They have diverse learning skills and needs. Having hands-on learning materials for my students to use when they are struggling to learn is essential.
My Project
I am requesting magnetic clear blocks, Fold A Go Kart, magnetic letters, and soft and build texture block as essentials to my students' learning in my classroom. My students often struggle with language and literacy skills in my classroom. Since Harvey hit our school and community, my students are at more of a risk for educational failure. The trauma and outpouring of help are critical during this time of rebuilding. My students will need extra support to build language and literacy skills. My students will be able to build letters, build language, build structures, conversations, and friendships. Harvey devastated our area. Please help my students rebuild.
I work in a Title I school.
I work with students who are "at-risk" for educational failure. Often times my families do not have food for the families. Right now, a lot of my families are struggling even more to rebuild their homes, and they count on the school to feed their children. My students come to school hungry, so it is very difficult for my students to focus on their work.
The donation of this project will help my students stay full and focused on learning.
Imagine thousands of children coming to school that do not know what the letter A looks like. How are they supposed to succeed in our society when they lack the basic knowledge of letters, sounds, and communication especially now after Hurricane Harvey hit our area. Literacy in America is a struggle. Especially if you were a student who was affected by the storms of Harvey. Funding this project will help my students stay focused and their brains working and be eager to learn.
