We are a preschool classroom consisting of two half-day sessions of 15 three- and four-year-old children. We serve low income and at-risk families by providing a high quality free preschool. Many of our families speak English as a second language, so our students are learning English from their teachers and peers. Other students receive disability services through our program while at school. We are a very diverse classroom. All of our students are learning to have fun at school, to be kind to each other, and are getting ready to thrive in kindergarten.
My students are full of energy and are very curious.
They constantly amaze me with their eagerness to learn. For most of our students, our program is their first school experience, and, for some, it is their first experience having regular interactions with children outside of their family. This year will set the tone for years of learning ahead, so we want our little ones to realize that fun and learning go hand-in-hand.
My Project
On Black Friday this year I bought a small set of Leap Builders with the alphabet on some blocks for my classroom. I have been extremely impressed. These blocks build similar to Lego Duplos but are slightly easier for the children to put together. They also stick together better when the child wants to carry their project but somehow are engineered to come apart more easily when the child wants to take their project apart. The letters blocks have been exciting for the kids to demonstrate their letter knowledge with and the pictures on the blocks have been excellent for our English Language Learners to practice with. The problem? There's not enough right now!
Please help give me students a classroom friendly set of Leap Builders so more children can play together!
I'm also excited because the letters and pictures can be put into a special block that will tell the children the letter or name the picture. This block didn't come with the set I purchased but will coordinate with the set we have. This project will expand and make more useful (and enjoyable) a new to us toy that has impressed us with its design and teaching potential. I am also asking for some storage.
