My students are sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in a small, rural middle school.
Our three hundred and twenty-five students range from the mentally impaired and learning disabled to gifted, with every ability level in between.
They all are excited about learning; however, they want to be able to do everything larger schools do.
We get no money for supplies, consumables, or new equipment. Everything we get has to come from grants or fundraisers. With every department, music group, and athletic team raising funds, it becomes very difficult for the community to support all of our needs.
My Project
My STEM students are designing, modeling and finally building a game to help our special needs students learn an essential skill. They will work with the Special Education teacher to learn about the challenges facing the students in her class and what she would like them to focus on. Students will research, brainstorm and develop a game using a Cricut, electronic tools and other building tools. These wooden pieces and burning tools will help them make the final product for their target audience. They will be able to combine all they’ve learned about engineering and design to make a usable end product.
