Help me give my students the opportunity for developmental play. Blocks give students opportunity to problem solve, create stories, and collaborate with their peers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is embarking on an exciting adventure this year! We are becoming a school that is putting children’s interest first to create a fun and engaging classroom. I teach kindergarten at a Title 1 school that offers free breakfast and lunch to 100% of our students. Our students live in a rural community and are not exposed to a lot of experiences. I want to be able to give my students new experiences within the classroom. Our students are full of energy and are eager to learn!
My Project
Help me bring fun and engagement back into kindergarten! Having a block center is very important in an educational environment. Block play helps children develop skills and learn basic concepts of architecture and engineering. Block play also helps children learn to work collaboratively. Having a block center helps students build problem solving skills, imagination, self-expression, and mathematic skills. I plan to connect the block center to literacy, writing, and math. Students that are able to create structures are able to create stories and will be more excited to write. Students that are engaged and invested in their work will become stronger learners. I want to create a classroom that has an outcome of life long learners!
