My students need books at their reading level so they can practice reading strategies taught through reading workshop in kindergarten. They also need copies of emergent stories so they can learn the flow of book language!
Students at my school have had the opportunity to fall in love with reading in the past few years. We just started implementing Lucy Calkins' Reading Workshop which allows children plenty of independent reading time of books accessible to their current abilities.
My kindergartners are the sweetest and most loving children imaginable!
They would be elated to have a fresh set of books come onto their bookshelves.

My Project
These books will allow my kindergartners to practice reading strategies learned through Lucy Calkins' Reading Workshop. The leveled books allow students to practice decoding, phonemic awareness, and simple comprehension. The emergent story books will allow kids to practice the flow of reading stories, using specific story language.
Kids need access to books across many genres, authors, topics, and interests to help develop their own reading identities.
They need a chance to choose from a wide selection, so they don't lose interest in the wonderful world of reading.
