Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a welcoming environment with a strong belief in building on the talents and experiences of our diverse student population. 76.5% of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, 25% are English learners, and more than 96% are students of color.
My class is made up of 32 enthusiastic students who are ready to learn and grow together.
We work hard to build a strong and supportive classroom community in which everyone can and will succeed. We learn and grow together through the sharing of our individual backgrounds and stories. Each perspective is respected and valued.
My Project
My students work hard every day to write and create books to share with readers.
Building students' independence as authors is essential to growing a personal writing identity.
These pens, tape, staplers, post its, and other items will give my students access to the materials they need to make their writing the best it can be. They use the post its to fix up mistakes and add in details. My students feel so grown up and motivated to write when they use pens. The staplers and tape support them to reorganize and revise their writing. The paper trays will provide a space in which all of these materials can be organized!
