This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently work with 18 prekindergarten students. Our school is a Title I school and currently we have 100% of our students provided with free lunch as well as the majority of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes. My class is home to students from diverse backgrounds. They attend a neighborhood school, which means the students live within 2 miles of the school. It is one of the only schools that doesn't need buses. They are hardworking and truly make my job enjoyable.
My Project
This project will make a difference in the my students' learning experiences because it will provide us with science materials that will allow our students to learn about physical and life science. The materials requested in this project give my students STEM materials, like the Sink Or Float STEM Station, that they will be able to use inside and outside of the classroom. Our students' lifelong learning begins here in PreK and STEM education should start here too.
The ladybug and butterfly larvae and habitats will make the books we have read come alive right before their eyes.
We have read several fiction and non-fiction books about insects and both insects that were requested offer unique life cycle experiences.
