My Students
I am a reading interventionist that provides support to students that struggle in reading to help close achievement gaps. I will be going into different classrooms throughout the day to pull small reading and writing groups for students who are below grade level.
My students are from different parts of the world that speak many different languages; such as Burmese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish.
They are very eager to embrace the language while learning to read. I will be working with students from third to fifth grade. Our school has an estimated population of eleven hundred students ranging from Pre-K to fifth grade. 90% of our students are economically disadvantaged and come from low SES homes.
My Project
I am requesting different leveled reading books that are fiction and non-fiction to help my students learn the love of reading. My students are older and now know they are struggling to read. If a child knows they are not proficient at something, then they give up. Loving to read is the first step in ensuring the students will go on to be life long learners.
As a reading interventionist, my goal is for all students to make growth and love reading.
The struggling readers will benefit from these books by practicing reading and comprehension skills in a small group setting. Our small group makes the environment safe for all students to celebrate successes and learn from mistakes.
