My Students

The students in my school come from very diverse backgrounds.

64% belong to a minority group.

35% speak English as a second language, 14% receive special education services and 71% participate in the free and reduced lunch program. Some of my students have needs that make learning more challenging. We are implementing a number of new programs this school year to help accelerate their reading and math skills, and provide them with unique opportunities to experience the arts in the classroom.

My Project

This year I'm implementing Class Dojo, an app that helps me award points when students are making good choices in the classroom!

The students earn points for being on task, working hard, and helping others.

Parents can check the app at home to see how their child's day went.

I gave the students a Google Form survey asking what kinds of items they'd like to "buy" with the Class Dojo points they earn in the classroom. Some of the most popular responses were Snacks, Fun pencils, Stickers, Bookmarks, Small toys, Slime, & Squishies, in addition to things like time with a special adult, sitting in the teacher chair for the day and reading with a buddy.
