Building Games, from Code to Console

Help me give my students a holistic experience, allowing them to create hardware that corresponds to their hardware, as well as design interdisciplinary devices for their art majors.

My Students

My classroom is the only one of its kind at the school, teaching Computer Sciences from a accredited Curriculum (Teals from Microsoft). Our CS program is part of both the Math and STEM department of the school. I know my students can succeed. I have seen design and ingenuity displayed over and over again. Many of my students have been handicapped, and not given the tools to succeed.

My class is set in an urban community (90% living in poverty, more than 70% are minority.

Due to the great needs of our students , 1/6 of the students who enroll are proficient in math and 1/3 in reading.

My Project

My scholars have already been coding, designing abstraction, customization, looping, conditions, booleans, etc. This will allow my scholars to now just design through coding, but actually building hardware with their software. Makey Makey is very hands-on, corresponds directly with coding, and allows for a lot of creativity and ingenuity, one of the strongest suit of the majority of my students.

I can’t wait to see them create an actual custom invention, basically changing my students from being students to becoming computer engineers.

Something they can be proud of, show off, use, and add to their portfolio. It might even influence their future careers.
