Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very talented, young individuals who come from a high poverty section of New York City. They face challenges inside school to succeed and do their best, and they struggle outside of school to not allow their environment to stop them from achieving their dreams. We are a one hundred percent free lunch school. Our students strive to become role models and leaders for their community.
Coming to art class is an opportunity for them to express themselves creatively and to free their minds of the obstacles they face.
My students are from all over the world and they bring the knowledge of their cultures to my class, which in turn results in the most creative masterpieces.
My Project
In art class we are looking into our futures. Futures as artists! In doing so, we are looking to create portfolios to show our progress throughout the years as we grow as young artists. Because of space limitations, we need to be able to scan and store our artwork. Having an external hard drive that each student will be able to keep a folder with their images on will keep us organized for the next couple of years as we create and develop these portfolios. Our older students will learn the importance of developing the portfolios, from scanning, editing, storing and then when the time comes creating the portfolio for art middle and high schools.
