Our students are passionate about robotics education. They have a willingness to stay after school, attend day long tournaments, and do independent research through robotics forums. Often, they will review online tutorials under their own initiative in order to learn more about building and coding.
Their interests in modifying their designs allow them to actively learn the engineering design process that is vital to many STEM related fields.
Also, they strive to represent our school well in our community and when we visit other schools at tournaments. Robotics education gives our students a chance to learn applied sciences while building teamwork and collaboration skills.
My Project
Very few classroom activities capture the attention of my students as thoroughly as robotics lessons. Every time we incorporate robotics into our standards, engineering suddenly becomes more exciting and less intimidating for our new students. VEX Robotics equipment including the RobotC software enables students to learn coding based on the C++ program.
By adding the products on the materials list, students will be able to build more complex robots and learn more about drive trains, gear ratios, and coding.
It also furthers their interests in careers such as computer hardware engineering and computer programming. Overall, this project will boost the number of students interested in seeking STEM related careers.
