Help me give my students the building materials and math materials they need. These hands on wonders will help them learn and create some social interaction along the way.
I currently work at a school for children with disabilities. Most of these children are diagnosed with autism or a related disorder. These children are faced with challenges every day of their lives and our school is trying to make a more safe and relaxing environment for them. We focus on coping skills to help encourage the learning process of the child. We find that these items distract the mind enough to help promote their learning. Environment is key with these children and learning their needs with their wants is always a struggle.
My Project
I'm looking to add some building materials to my classroom to help children engage in fun learning. The children I work with have many daily challenges and learning disabilities. Behaviors often impede their learning so, I try to be creative. They need manipulatives to guide their learning and kick in those engineering skills. Children will learn multiple reasoning skills and peer interactions to help build their masterpieces with all forms of blocks. Magnetic blocks can attach in many ways to build a house, a car, or whatever they have in their imagination. Water blocks float, so adding water or sand to a bin can change up the substance while still learning. Manipulatives are great for building math skills by counting blocks or recognizing colors of them. They won't even realize they are learning all along and they will work on their social skills with their peers.
