My students/players are located in a rural Alabama area. We have recently been decimated with reduced funding from parents and the surrounding community due to lack of jobs. The main industry in our area was coal mining; however, due to new coal regulations, we have had a lot of parents lose jobs. Despite these hardships, we have kids who try their best and do not give us excuses.
The players we teach every day are hardworking individuals with a blue collar mentality.
They are willing to do whatever is asked of them in order to be successful. We use football as a tool to develop character in young men, like the character required to pick yourself up after you lose a job later in life.
This year our football team is wanting to focus on a weakness at our school which is the lack of overall foot speed and reaction time. We believe that by consistently focusing on foot speed through the use of agility bags our football players will gradually show increases in foot speed. Our student athletes have shown us over the three years at the school that they are willing to work hard to achieve whatever challenges we present to them. However, we are lacking the necessary tools to help them train in some areas.
The donations for this project will provide the student athletes with a reason for continuing to demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Lastly, we believe with increased foot speed and agility the student athletes will be more competitive with regions teams they play each year.
