Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all backgrounds, represent all ethnic groups and religions, all types of families, and all types of education levels. When they walk through the door, they know that they will be welcomed, challenged, and encouraged.

We strive to keep students engaged with every type of in-school activity, after-school club, and sports team imaginable.

This dedication is met with enthusiasm and participation. It shows students that teachers also have a wide variety of interests and that learning is not limited to the classroom.

My Project

This project includes a variety of items that we will us through out the year as we explore project based learning with a mix of 6th to 8th graders. The mix of planes, Legos, robotic vacuums, and bandages all serve a purpose for various projects to keep students learning through projects. This year we have a few Related Arts courses that will be a mix of grade levels, so we will be engaging in some Montessori style learning.

The best way to learn is simply to do.

The balsa wood airplanes are something new for us this year, as we will explore designing, building, and testing planes for flight.

The Legos will be used to tell the story of the history of space travel and all the diverse people it takes to make a large project possible. Students love making stop motion movies and this will provide us new tools to tell the story of one of the most historic engineering endeavors of all time.

Every year we ask students what they would like to invent. A homework machine or a chore machine is always on the top of the list. The most real world example of this is a robot vacuum cleaner. We will explore how these devices actually working using a variety of sensors and mapping technologies.

Finally, hands on learning means cuts, scrapes, and ouchies. And students come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. To match this diversity we are including multi-toned bandages so that everyone is represented.
