Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. We are a supportive community of learners that cheer each other on everyday. We love to laugh together and celebrate our accomplishments with dance parties. My class is filled with such kindhearted kids that care so much about others and the world around them. We are a family in my classroom. We take care of each other, we comfort each other, we work together, and we love each other. Our close bond makes for a fun and relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and collaborating. My goal is to make school a safe place students can't wait to get to each morning and dread leaving each day.
My Project
My students are working on building their reading fluency at home and in class. We have set goals of how many words per minute each student wants to be reading by the end of the year. In order to help them be accountable for their learning, I want to teach them how to time themselves so they don't have to wait for a grown up to tell them how many words they are reading in one minute.
Building fluency will help my students gain confidence in their reading.
The sentence highlight strips are a tool students can use to help keep their place while working on their fluency.
Finally, The Invisible Boy is an incredible book I would love for my students to enjoy. It teaches students the importance of including everyone and teaching our to someone having a rough day.
