This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our population consists of students with special needs in a community school. Our program provides educational, vocational and behavior support programs for students on the Autism Spectrum, emotionally challenged, multiply disabled and significant cognitive delays. We are a Title I school and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our students reside in various locations throughout Brooklyn and come from diverse backgrounds. Students at our school are leaders, unique and have the capacity to reach their academic goals with proper supports.
My Project
By donating to this project, you will help our students build their self-esteem, confidence and pride. Our students come from low-income households and may not have essential personal care products such as soap, shampoo, and deodorant to maintain proper hygiene. By maintaining proper hygiene in our population there will be prevention in bullying and low self-esteem.
With my role as Job Developer/Transition Coordinator, the students actively participate in work-based learning opportunities and activities regarding post-secondary outcomes.
We visit colleges and businesses with the prospect of obtaining employment. When students are feeling and looking their best, their confidence will be boosted and they will be prepared and ready to accomplish their goals. We want to help teach our students how important it is to be presentable and exude pride and confidence in everyday life experiences and in the world of work.
