We are an inquisitive, fun, smart, and excited community of learners. We are diverse in every sense of the word: culturally, economically, racially, linguistically, and in terms of our interests.
We come together in the classroom to create a rigorous learning community.
Together, we will investigate and discover how our similarities and differences inform our understanding of the world. We are excited to tackle a new year of learning and fun together. Please support us as we complete elementary school.
My Project
Our incoming fifth graders love to build! With that base, let's construct some new understandings of engineering design.
In order to be college and career ready, we need our students to practice working together and thinking creatively to solve real-world problems.
The Next Generation Science Standards expect that third through fifth graders can define a problem, and generate and compare possible solutions. They should plan and carry out tests to consider what parts of their solution are working and what need to be improved.
Building with LEGOs, MagnaTiles, marble runs, and K'nex will allow us to use familiar "toys" to investigate unfamiliar constraints. The K'nex kit in particular relates to our renewable energy standards. The marble run allows students to think creatively about gravity and other forces. The LEGOs and MagnaTiles allow students to practice design thinking together - to plan, build, test, and redesign to improve their outcome. 5th grade STEAM will be so much fun!
