Building Early Learning Skills through People, STEM, and Literacy
My students need wooden people to help them engage and learn about cultures, and careers. They will also benefit from the beanbag learning centers and science viewers by gaining hands-on experiences with these activities.
The students have a variety of needs including, but not limited to, limited or no exposure to peers, academics, communication, social or motor concepts. Many of the children have limited or no language and are working on basic and appropriate communication. The children also have limited social-emotional or social-behavior skills that are developmental below their age range and they are being introduced to appropriate social interactions as well as social communicational skills for themselves, to engage with peers, and to engage with adults.
My students are special because they are children and children are a miracle and a blessing to teach, learn from, and watch them grow into excited and participating life-long learners.
My classroom has a variety of students, though most of the students are from a low-economic area.
My classroom consists of children with specialized needs (Autism, learning, physical, and motor disabilities [fine and gross], developmental delays, and communication disabilities). The classroom also contains children with typical developmental progress who help provide modeling for the students with delays. The combined format also provides each student the opportunity to connect, make friendships, and learn about the diversity around them and how to empathize with each other.
My Project
Starting kids early in engaging in the curiosity, love of, and enjoyment of learning helps build a strong foundation as they grow and develop skills to succeed. My students would benefit from having supplies that help them learn about the world around them. Playing with a variety of items that reinforce pre-academic skills is vital to helping them learn, engage, and enjoy. Beanbags help supply a variety of learning opportunities including: visual, tactile, and kinesthetic learning to the environment. Hands-on activities with science helps the students engage, question, and explore their world. The science viewers will provide exposure to a variety of aspects that help the students explore concepts and connections that outside their daily lives. The wooden people help provide play engagement not only in the construction area, but in dramatic play, communication, social skills, analytical thinking, and problem solving. Students can learn about emotions, empathy, about different cultures, and similarities and differences in each other.
Students need a variety of skills to succeed in today's world; including skills in communication, science, math, and literacy to name a few.
As the students engage, learn, and enjoy the opportunities presented with the beanbags, people, and science viewers their world is expanding around them; which leads to stronger skills. As their skills grow stronger the students' curiosity is engaged and they show a love and interest in learning that builds their problem solving and analytical thinking skills. This will also help grow their communication and social skills so that they learn about the differences and similarities around them and how to appropriately show and express their knowledge, emotions, questions, and answers. Hopefully, helping them build the foundation for future learning, growing, seeking, and development.
