My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 75% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Fairfield County. Working with students who have academic, behavior and intellectual challenges is rewarding but can also presents itself with challenges. These challenges most often include a lack of flexibility, communication and classroom behavioral norms.

Currently my department shares one chromecart with no headphones.

Having headphones and a quiet place in my room would guarantee that each student works at the pace needed that will benefit him/her. No down time equals greater comprehension.

My Project

My students all share two disadvantages, they have difficulty reading and limited access to chromebooks, headphones and a quiet place to study and move around.

Whether they are dyslexic, have gaps in their education due to family issues or are ELL, they all need to learn to decode.

My class implements individual and group work. When not providing direct instruction, I use an excellent reading computer program to increase individual growth by practicing skills such as comprehension, grammar and word attack skills. Having a quiet corner where they don't need to sit still and can work individually on specialized computer program.
