Rotate to the next center! My first grade students have a 2-hour reading block where it's all about balanced literacy and differentiated instruction. Students engage in center activities for an hour each day in each of the five areas of literacy. We are in need of comprehension centers.
I have 29 wonderful and inquisitive first grade students.
They live in an urban community and attend an Illinois Charter School with an extended day and school year. We have adopted the Balanced Literacy approach to reading. Students receive small group reading instruction at their instructional level while the rest of the class participates in literacy centers.
Each of the centers (Building Comprehension Skills Activity Folders, Sequence & Write Story Tiles and Whatâs the Order? Sequencing Kit) will target a different reading standard: comprehending fiction and nonfiction text, sequencing events, identifying details, understanding cause and effect and distinguishing fact from opinion. The ready-to-use teaching centers have all the tools needed to reinforce key reading skills. My goal is to help students develop the skills they need to become confident & successful readers with activity-filled kits designed for small-group learning! What a better way to boost comprehension skills than with high-interest activities. By engaging in Reading centers, the students will get the focused practice they need to master essential comprehension skills!
Reading is fundamental and the key to success!
My goal is to lay the foundation by introducing the various reading comprehension strategies and to foster a love for reading! By working together through cooperative learning groups, students will be able to learn from each other as they practice each of the skills.
