Help me give my students a stronger sense of community and belonging by providing a small birthday celebration for each student and tools for us to use during individual conferences.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our student population is diverse with students of various income levels, ethnicities, and religions in one classroom. With a Marine Air station just less than three miles away, we serve many military families originating from all over the country. This diversity presents unique challenges for our community. They have enjoyed learning about other countries and cultures in an effort to better understand themselves and those around them.
These students have the desire to succeed in their post-secondary life, but they need help acquiring the skills necessary for either college or a career.
Most of our students go on to attend college, either at the community college level or a four-year university.
My Project
In order for students to feel comfortable taking academic risks they must feel valued and appreciated. By taking a couple of minutes to celebrate each student's birthday, we will develop a community of people who care about each other and each individual's success.
Students love to meet to discuss their goals and progress one-on-one but it can be challenging to remember the details of the conversation.
The phone message books provide a place for us to take notes during conferences discussing their individual progress. The carbon copy will both myself and the student to have a copy of the notes we take so we can both refer back to them.
