Gone are the days of learning through worksheets or independently. My students were born as digital natives with all the answers at their fingertips. However what my students crave are the opportunities to synergize with each other. My goal is to help my students become collaborative and synergic. To meet those needs, I must provide a space to foster idea sharing and communication.
My classroom is a unique community.
It is filled with all types of students coming from all types of backgrounds. They each possess their individual genius, but also their individual academic challenges. One thing is consistent throughout each student, they all possess an extraordinary thirst for knowledge. The students yearn for experiences that challenge their thinking and produce questions. With this in mind, I want to expand beyond the push of academics and help them build a strong character foundation. When my students leave me at the end of the year, I want them to not only take away what they have learned academically, but also what they have learned about themselves as leaders.
My Project
This 120 Grid Activity Carpet will change the learning environment of my classroom. It will help us to build character and strengthen our classroom community. Students will be able to sit together without the boundaries of desks or tables. I will use this carpet for group work, character building games and to help teach the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids.
Students will be able to comfortably and safely share their thoughts, ideas and feelings.
Together students will be able to take individual ideas and combine them into new and better ideas...synergy!! On our carpet, I will teach and help to build a strong character foundation that my students will carry with them throughout their life.
