Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Middle school is a time of great social interaction. Our student forum has started a Kindness campaign in which their goal is to not only spread kindness themselves but to challenge others to do so as well. They are a great group of kids that are empathetic to others feeling left out or different.

It is truly a gift when the students themselves want to promote inclusion, empathy, diversity, and acceptance.

We are in a high poverty area and lack the funds to provide the needed materials.

My Project

Buddy Benches or Friendship Benches are used to promote kindness and communication among students. It is a place that students can sit and get to know each other. Our student forum wants two benches that they are going to paint with kindness sayings.

These benches will promote inclusion and empathy at our school.

Our students will paint the benches with kindness sayings as a project-based learning experience. Anyone that sits on the bench will be welcomed and included in all activities. The benches are a reminder of soft skills such as communication and collaboration. They will help to build empathy in all who sit on them.
