Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My tiny first graders are having their first real experience with school due to the pandemic. Many of them missed an entire kindergarten year because they stayed home for virtual learning. Therefore, it is essential to help them stay healthy and in school as much as possible.

I am so proud of their growth and newfound excitement for learning.

I know this semester of teaching and learning will show even more extraordinary academic achievement than the first semester.

My Project

The Versatile Literacy and Math kits will create confident, independent learners in my first-grade classroom. Many of my students are still hesitant to participate in class discussions during math and reading lessons because they lack confidence. They don't want to answer incorrectly and aren't confident enough to ask questions because they missed a real kindergarten experience. If they had these self-checking independent learning kits, they could get the extra practice with previously taught skills and check their work. It would boost their confidence and remove the fear of answering incorrectly during class discussions.
