There has been an abundance of research around play and its positive effects on early childhood learning and development. In general, research shows strong links between creative play and language, physical, cognitive, and social development. Play is a healthy, essential part of childhood. As they grow into four- and five-year-olds, young children engage more and more in play activities that encourage higher level thinking, expand their knowledge of the world around them, develop their motor skills, and focus on their peers. I would like to enhance the play opportunities of my curriculum with a focus on problem-solving activities and materials.
We live in a world that focuses on STEAM-focused professions and opportunities.
Students that are successful in STEAM careers are used to problem-solving, interpersonal relationships, and creative thinking. Many of the STEM careers on popular lists are very diverse, including jobs like financial analyst, architect, biochemist, mechanical engineer, mathematician, and IT manager.
My Project
I have selected puzzles and activities covering a range of subjects including literacy development and science. These will help engage students, motivate them in their learning, and allow students to feel successful.
Puzzles and other hands-on materials are a great way for students to work together and build individual confidence.
Jobs of the future require these skills and schools must provide training and exposure, especially for or our youngest learners. STEAM jobs will focus on math, science, and development of interpersonal skills. In general, research shows strong links between creative play and language, physical, cognitive, and social development.
My students come from homes where these opportunities are not readily available.
