My Students

I teach 2nd grade in a high poverty area. This means that my classroom is very diverse, and my students all have very different needs. My goal is to make sure every single one of their needs is being met, while in my classroom.

Since I am an early childhood educator, I know I must set the foundation for their future, to make them love school for the years to come.

My students love to learn, love to read, love to create, love to expand their knowledge all while having fun! My goal is to make learning fun and meaningful for every one, while meeting each of their needs. I want them to want to come to school, and to work hard to succeed. I feel that making learning fun, will make them want to do well, and push themselves further in my class, and for their future to come.

My Project

My students love anything that requires them to be hands-on. This project is geared right towards that. I would love to implement more Storybook STEM projects in my classroom. Storybook STEM projects cover essential skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, math, science, and engineering, all while doing hands on activities that are very engaging for my students.

This project lets my kids use their imagination and be creative, all while learning different literacy skills, math skills, and science skills all in one lesson.

The books that I am needing, provide engaging literacy mini lessons, which connect with an engaging STEM project that the students will create. The literacy mini lessons teach different skills ranging from vocabulary, comprehension skills, and grammar skills. After our projects are built, we will be able to test them to see what worked, and what didn't. We will be able to ask questions, test hypothesis, solve problems, and come up with solutions on how to make our projects better, which will incorporate math and science skills.

We have done STEM projects in class before, and it is amazing to see my second graders become little engineers. Their minds work in ways you wouldn't believe, and they create the most magnificent products. Seeing them work together by discussing, asking questions, and testing their products makes me proud. Being able to incorporate literacy with the books requested, will make these project even more powerful than ever!
