Our school is a safe haven to many of our students. It is a place where they can escape the things that are going on at home and that are occurring in their lives. These students go through things that I couldn't even imagine going through as an adult, let alone as an elementary school student. They come to school every day with a smile on their face, eager to see their classmates and to see what we will be learning during the course of the day.
Seeing the students come to school each day, where they know that they can just be a kid and not have to deal with the stresses of their day to day life, really makes you feel, as an educator, that you are making a difference in their lives.
I frequently tell my students that in my classroom we are a family and we all need to help one another in order to be successful. These students are always the first to help anyone in need. These students are our future and I want them to grow up to be successful in everything they do in life, and to always help others whenever possible.
My Project
Students will be using the iPads to build their skills across all areas of the curriculum. They would be used in reading to research and read both fiction and non-fiction text and build their comprehension skills. In math, they would be used to build and strengthen their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication & division facts, as well as build their problem solving skills through the use of various educational apps. In writing, students could conduct research and use a variety of story making apps to conduct their work. And of course in science and social studies students would be able to build, research, and investigate using apps as well. To ensure that these students are college & career ready they need to be exposed to technology as much as possible being as it surrounds us all on a day to day.
Our school currently does not have any iPads available to the students.
With technology being on the rise in education, I feel it is important to enable students to have access to all different types of technology that the majority of them do not have access to at home. Technology could provide a whole new world of learning for these students, and I would love to open their minds to all that technology has to offer.
