Help me give my students what they deserve to become the future leaders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with LEGOs, a LEGO station, and creative math games!
At a suburban public school, the students in my 2nd grade classroom come from diverse backgrounds. They have various academic, social-emotional, physical, and socioeconomic needs, some needing speech services while others are on behavior plans. It is imperative that we have what we need to meet these needs in the classroom. They are a wonderful, energetic group of 12 boys and 10 girls, and to help them maintain their positive attitudes and bubbly personalities, we want to ensure all of their needs are met throughout the day. Some students need encouragement and gentle reminders to stay on task, and this requires engaging and differentiated instruction.
By providing a safe, risk-free, welcoming environment, students can maintain a positive and comfortable learning experience in our classroom community.
They come in every morning with a ready-to-learn attitude, and we want to help them maintain that by keeping their focus on learning and having fun. We do not want them to have to worry about anything else throughout the day!
My Project
Within our second grade classroom, our curious learners are always ready to explore and move forward with their thinking! In order to do so, we have started implementing math centers as well as STEM activities.
With your help, 22 second-grade students will be able to build on their creative knowledge through hands-on learning, which is of the utmost importance at this influential age!
During math, we have started using a math workshop model in which we have time to play math games everyday. This wide range of math materials will help us build our number sense and stretch our minds to be more flexible with our thinking. We already love playing games during recess, and now math games will serve as a means to show what we know and stay engaged in our learning! With this math knowledge, we will be able to think more critically when it comes to our STEM centers, thus integrating our learning across content areas.
Within the STEM centers, we have a small range of fun materials to help us align our thinking with problems and ideas from the real world. We would love to add the ever-popular LEGOs to our STEM centers! These will help us show off our imaginations and creativity when it comes to engineering and creating models of our thinking.
