I teach Science to middle school special needs students located in Staten Island, NY. Many of my students have Autism and other disabilities and some are economically disadvantaged. Our students are culturally diverse and all receive free lunch. Many of my students love to learn through hands-on experiences. We are currently conducting classes through remote learning which is extremely difficult for my students. My students require hands-on material to help them engage in their learning. This grant will help me make individual books for my students and also help parents of these students use individualize material that they can work with everyday. Parents have become their child's teacher and need these resources to make teaching their child less challenging. My students each require material specifically made for their needs. It is difficult for parents to receive emails full of material they need to work with their child. Most do not have printers to print out the material.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help my students and their parents during their remote learning at home. My students require hands-on material to help them focus on the topic at hand. These materials will help me create books that will last for a long period of times.
Parents have been challenged to become their child's educator, many of my parents do not have the means to print out material for their child.
Creating books and material that can be made into books will make it less challenging for parents. I will drop off these books to my students mail box. Parents are looking for all the resources they can get their hands on. This is one way I can make it easier for them to teach their child who is severely learning disabled.
