My Students
My 3rd grade class is an eclectic mix of personalities, abilities and cultures. They are eager learners and enjoy sharing what they know with their peers. We're located in a large, urban area where the majority of students are considered to be living below the poverty line. Despite their obstacles, the students come to school everyday eager to learn. They continually push themselves to become better and improve daily. They speak multiple languages, but their enthusiasm, innocence and love of learning brings them together.
My Project
Students learn best when they can touch and play with manipulatives as they're learning. Legos allow students to touch and feel something concrete as they're learning difficult math concepts such as multiplication, division, area, perimeter, fractions and so much more.
Legos are amazing.
They are simultaneously toys and manipulatives that engage students in learning. They can be used for math, writing, and reading. Students can building scenes and write stories based on the scenes they have created.
Beyond the academic benefits of Legos, they also have an immeasurable benefit. Students can work together and use their imaginations to create, solve problems, and play. All of these things will not only help students be successful now, but will help them be successful later in life.
