Imagine walking into a school building for the first time and finding that there is a whole world to explore outside the walls of your home. This can be a scary and exciting time for students who are 3-5 years old. Some are still learning to communicate, while others cannot wait to explore their new classroom. That is why I strive to provide a fun and engaging environment for my students to help alleviate the nervousness of attending school for the first time.
My students love coming to school each day and have excitement in their voice when they ask what we are learning that day!
Half of the students in my morning and afternoon class have special needs, while the other half are considered typically developing or at risk. One aspect all my students have in common is working to build early academic skills as they prepare for kindergarten. I strive to provide an engaging classroom environment that fosters independence while reaching the needs of my diverse learners.
My Project
These blocks will help engage my students in STEM learning focusing on the E in STEM; engineering. My students frequently rely on me to give them the answer to a question or solve a problem for them. My goal is to give them the ability to use their creativity and solve problems through trial and error. The marble run set, for example, will allow my students to explore ramps and angles to determine how to make the marble move down the ramp faster. The brick blocks will allow students to engineer structures such as a house or garage that they create themselves.
