My students need some building sets like Magna-Tiles and Playstix to fuel their imaginations and the STEM kit for fairy tales to work on problem solving.
My students are a combination of kindergartners and first graders, but together we are a community of happy learners. Because we have two grade levels, we are striving to be more independent workers.
Every day my students enter our portable with big smiles on their faces, ready to explore the world of reading, ready to take on the challenges of problem solving, and ready to learn how to be part of a productive team.
They are truly a diverse groups of kids, spanning in age from 5-7. They eagerly participate in building their reading stamina and look forward to working independently on their writing and word work. They still like to play though, and being a new classroom, we could use some new building kits!
My Project
The Word Work Activity Stations and the Phonemic Awareness Instant Learning Centers will help during our literacy block when both grade levels are in the classroom together. The building sets will be huge hits during our much needed free choice time. Students will work in groups to use their problem solving skills with the Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM kits. All these resources support our Common Core Standards for both grade levels.
These resources would greatly enhance the quality of education in my classroom.
They would give my students the opportunity for hands on practice with learning phonics in order to improve their reading. They would foster the independence so necessary in a combination class.
