Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in an urban city. Even before the recession, I received very little funding or no funding at all for my classroom. Every year, I would spend money to buy school supplies for my students and myself! It is like having twenty of your own children to put through school! I buy my students pencils, crayon boxes, paper, notebooks, even snacks since they come to school hungry.
My students do not come to school prepared. And being that I find myself spending money on basic supplies, I have little money to spend on essential "academic" items. My students every year struggle with reading. My students score well below the mandated reading assessment for their grade.
I need Leveled Readers E, F, and G to add to a set of Leveled Readers in another grant I proposed. Ideally, I would love to have a complete set of Leveled Readers to incorporate guided reading into my classroom. My students will benefit tremendously from guided reading. I will be able to have students read at their level and work with them in groups and individually to develop their reading to read at the next level, and eventually above grade level!
With your help, my students will be able to develop their reading skills and read at or above grade level. These Leveled Readers will offer differentiation to my class's reading groups. Students will be able to read at their level and encourage them to higher levels. Please help my class succeed in reading!
