Mrs. Bunn from Charlotte NC is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need geometric shapes, wedgits, clipboard math, and geobuilders to gain experience with three dimensional shapes.

I teach First Grade at a Math, Science and Environmental Science School. We are a magnet that doesn't receive additional funding from the school system, state, or even the PTA. My students come from all over the city and many are from poor-income areas. They lack a lot of personal experiences that help them relate to the environment and learn new skills.
I am only given one solid figure for each three dimensional shape that I teach. The students don't have any 3-D shapes that they can work with to build or manipulate in different ways. Research shows that the students who work with hands on materials learn quicker and more in-depth than those who rely on worksheets or copies. With these materials, my students will be able to gain all of the experiences that other students their age take for granted.
My students need the geometric shapes, wedgits and geobuilders to gain experience with three dimensional shapes. With your help, we can have a variety of 3-D shapes that the students can use to build, sort, classify, create patterns, or compare and contrast. These are all skills that are essential for First Graders and are difficult for my students to master because of the lack of materials. With your generosity, my students will get the materials they need to enrich their mathematical experiences. They will be able to manipulate three dimensional shapes and learn how they go together to make other shapes.
Your generosity in helping fund this proposal will make a great difference in the way students learn in my classroom. There will be increased classroom participation because students will be eager to work with the materials rather than completing another worksheets. It is extremely hard to motivate students to learn without giving them hands on materials. You can provide the materials they need to make them life-long learners.
