Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day can feel like a battle. The students in my classroom are often struggling with things outside of school that are beyond our control. They come from backgrounds that are not always pleasant. My school is in a low socio-economic area and that is evident when you see our students or hear the things that they have been through. 98% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch and 6% are classified as homeless/migrant. This only scratches a portion of the needs.
As a teacher, I want nothing more than to provide these students with love, stability, and knowledge.
I try to move learning to the forefront of their minds and put aside their troubles while they are in my classroom. This is not always easy, but it is important.
My Project
Students learn better when they are engaged with hands on materials. I strive to create an environment in my classroom were students have the opportunity to learn through experience. Help support my students and their learning by providing them with materials to build their own pinball machines.
While learning about energy and its different forms, students will get to create their own games to transfer energy.
Each of these tools will allow them to use their creative skills and foster their engineering design skills as they plan and design their own game. These materials will allow us to use cardboard as our main building material, then add things such as lights, sounds, and obstacles for our games. By supporting this project, you will be helping build a love of learning for all students and encouraging students STEM explorations.
