I teach students with mild to moderate disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and developmental delays.
My students are included in their general education classrooms for a majority of the day and are pulled for one-on-one and/or small group instruction in my special education classroom for social skills and academics.
They are bright and eager, ready to take on a new school year! However, one item that is missing from our classroom are Legos, which will serve as a reward for students working toward behavior goals, as well as support in story writing for my writers that struggle getting their ideas onto pen and paper.
My Project
My students with Autism Spectrum Disorder have the most brilliant ideas in their brains! However, they often struggle to put their thoughts into words. This often frustrates them and discourages them from completing writing tasks.
With Lego Story Starters, my students will be better able to express their ideas by bringing their stories to life through Lego bricks!
In addition to writing tasks, my students need more creative options for activities to do during their hard earned reward breaks. The Legos that are funded from this project will also be used by my students to use during their free time in my classroom.
