My students need animals from all areas of their environment, a barn, a rug, cars, vehicles and people from their community to help mold creative little minds.
At the end of the year I would like to have given my students every opportunity to explore and build strong bonds with environmental learning. I want to expose them to every animal, community helper and every vehicle these children will encounter. I want to have a visual for these children.
These children come from a high poverty community.
Many of these resources are not available to them, which explains why year after year the children in my class can not relate to the animals we are discussing or the community vehicles and helpers we discuss. These manipulatives are extremely useful to give them a visual to what we are learning about and using them in a Learning Station to build concrete understanding.
I had many of these objects, but after a flood in my classroom the last week of school they were destroyed. I thought I could take them home to wash, but with no success they had to be discarded. I just want to fill the classroom with items we learn about and engage the students in a way to capture their interest. They are 4 and 5 year old children who want to explore, touch and engage in play to learn.
My Project
With these resources, these children will learn about animals. They will learn where the animals live, what they look like, what they eat and sounds they make. These children will be able to recreate the environments of where these animals live and add dramatic play to their Learning Station. How amazing will it be to have these resources at hand when exploring these animals and capture these children's interests.
The rug will help these children create the community they live in and explore the community helpers and vehicles they see on a daily basis. When we learn about our community, we can rebuild one in our classroom and explore together. They will learn the roles each of these helpers have and maybe even inspire some of them to be a helper of their community when they grow up.
These donations will help rebuild a classroom destroyed by a flood.
It will add resources these children can engage with and leave an endless amount of knowledge to take with them into future years. Hopefully, it will inspire them to not only appreciate all animals but, also, know all about these animals and what an important role they play in all our daily lives. These resources will allow them to learn about their community and see a visual of each helper that they can count on and what role they play to help keep all of us safe.
