Help me give my students the opportunity to explore their design and engineering skills with the amazing KEVA building block sets. This would be a great addition to my building and sculpture centers!
I have been exploring the choice based art room for the last few years and really started moving into the TAB art room setting. TAB is teaching artistic behavior in which my students learn about the process of making art rather than just focusing on the end product. Since having art centers, my students have flourished! They are so eager to create! They problem solve their mistakes and preserve!
Their creativity amazes me when they get to be the leaders of their own art works as well as sharing with others!
As I have changed my teaching style over the last few years, my students have become the brains behind their creations. They choose their own media, explore, make mistakes, and work through their mistakes to learn and and grow and implant their experiences into their creative memory bank. They also share their experiences with me through reflections and each other through demonstrations to their peers. They are the teaching leaders!
My Project
Keva planks are an awesome tool that students can use and re-use to build and engineer structures with out any glue or permanent connectors. The challenge cards teach students how to use them in particular ways to create structures as they scaffold and build off of each other. This is the perfect tool for my students, kindergarten through 5th grade, to explore and learn some basics in engineering and the designing of structures. This would be a great addition to my sculpture center in my choice based art studio since it is an easy take out and clean up tool that promotes creativity, problem solving, and collaboration!
