Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a small farming town. Fifty-three percent of our students are English learners. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Although we are located in an older neighborhood, it is a tight-knit community with lots of family support.

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" - William Butler Yeats.

My students are inquisitive with a desire to explore and grow. They are eager to learn but have had limited opportunities for enrichment outside of school.

My Project

We are a diverse school. I am continually adding multicultural books to our collection, but there must be more that I can do to create an inclusive library where everyone feels welcome.

“When you do nothing in the face of racist injustice... the effect of that is for that racism to persist..." Ibram X Kendi.

I was excited to discover the online class, "Allyship, Anti-Oppression Practices, and Building Inclusive Libraries." According to the course syllabus, "This Allyship course will educate you on how to support members of marginalized groups with everyday actions in a range of scenarios."

This project covers the enrollment fee for "Allyship, Anti-Oppression Practices, and Building Inclusive Libraries" offered through Library Juice Academy. The class is offered August 3 - 30, 2020.

Thank you for your encouragement and support!
