My Project

I have a very diverse set of students and a classroom library that does not appropriately match that diversity. I would like to build it up not only with canonical texts, but also titles that include BIPOC and LGBTQ+ protagonists to better cultivate a passion for reading in my students with stories in which they can see themselves and their cultures. It is my hope that a better collection of books will encourage my students to read more and discourage the notions that reading and books are “academic” or only for school.
