My students need Magna-tiles and wooden blocks for hands-on activities at choice-time that will still, sneakily, encourage critical thinking, creativity, and positive social interactions!

Hooray! This project is fully funded
After a year full of substitute teaching, I have been given the opportunity to teach my own class full of bright and curious first graders! Because of my work during the previous school year, I have been able to begin forming relationships with my incoming group of kids. It is easy to see that my class will be filled with energetic young minds and busy bodies! My students are hands-on, active learners with an intrinsic love for learning in new and exciting ways.
It is crucial that play and choice is included in my first grade classroom. I will supply opportunities daily for my students to choose what they would like to do and be able to simply play with their peers. I chose to ask for wooden blocks and magnetic building tiles because I believe they are the perfect open-ended materials; they encourage social interaction, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity, and they are also incredibly durable, which is important in a room full of 6 and 7 year olds! These materials will help me begin to build a classroom environment that inspires children to learn in a fun way!
