Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a classical education public charter. Being a Title 1 school, our school resources need to be focused on developing and supporting our students in their academic classroom endeavors. The art is a vital part of our curriculum, but we need additional funding to develop our theater arts program.
My students are amazing.
Many of them are first or second-generation Americans, and most do not speak English at home. There is nothing more powerful than watching a student work through their struggles with speaking English to deliver a well-executed Shakespearean monologue. They are vibrant, enthusiastic, and hardworking.
My Project
We need a base of royalty-free plays to do productions at my Title 1 school, and this collection will help build our program! We can't cover the expenses of rights to big plays, so we're looking at all of our options.
We were blessed to have a brand new theater, but we also need to build our backstage program by getting walkie-talkie headsets to communicate with the sound booth and the two wings on the deck of the stage.
What show will be complete without stage daggers and a smoke machine? Just building our tech here with these cool props and equipment.
