My students need beginning & ending sound, letter naming, and rhyming activities to help build their reading foundational skills.
We have over 132 kindergarten students. All 6 Kindergarten classes are a mix of races and socioeconomic situations. Our children have a passion for learning and love coming to school. School is their safe haven where they are loved and respected.
We call our students, "our kids", because they have a big piece of our hearts.
We wouldn't be the teachers we are today without them! They teach us and remind us of things that we may take for granted. Their smiles light up our classrooms and the joy they have each day is so refreshing, especially in a world filled with so much hate and injustice.
Our Kindergarten students need phonemic awareness and letter naming activities that they can use independently during reading groups or invention block. Phonemic awareness includes things like rhyming, beginning/ending sounds, and blending sounds. These skills are crucial for beginning readers.
These new activities would drastically help increase our student's foundational reading knowledge.
Many of the children in our Kindergarten classes don't have access to reading materials at home so their only exposure is at school. We would love to have some more hands-on, exciting activities for our children to use throughout the day. This will build their love for reading as well as their basic reading skills.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
