My Students

My dual language students live in an economically disadvantaged community. Ninety-two percent of students from our school come from low income families. All my students are Spanish speakers learning English as their second language. Like every other kid, my students dream of becoming great global citizens with wonderful careers in their future and I believe that every single one of them can.

When I see my students I see all the potential they have to be a very successful citizen of the 21st century.

Even though they are facing many challenges with this coronavirus pandemic, they are very enthusiastic about learning new things. Some are continuing to learn from home digitally while others are returning to Face-to-Face. I teach virtually and Face-to-Face and my all my students are very engaged in the learning, even the ones that are on the other side of the screen. I admire my students because they are motivated to become better people and to achieve all their goals.

My Project

"According to the U. S. Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are growing at 17%, while other occupations are growing at 9.8%. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics workers play a key role in the sustained growth and stability of the U.S. economy, and are a critical component to helping the U.S. win the future. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators."

This STEM project will teach my diverse students about inclusivity, not only will they learn to use their critical thinking skills to solve problems, but also learn that no matter who they are or where they came from, they still have the same opportunities as anybody else to succeed in a future STEM career.

In order to prepare my students for their future careers, they need to be exposed to STEM activities. These materials and activities will help my students use their higher order thinking skills to solve problems. My students will also have the opportunity to use their imagination to create things in order to solve a problem. With STEM, I can really make sure that students are ready for many of the challenges they will face, and to create a world where "Every Student Succeeds."

With all of the materials I will make STEM kits for my students to use at home. Each of my students will have their own STEM kit with task cards so that they can use content knowledge and skills in ways that are practical and applicable to the real world, just like they would if they were working on science or engineering projects in the field.
